"EARcosystem" is an innovative undertaking that installs two miniature ecosystems on the ears. Casting our gaze 25 years into the future, where noise disturbances persist, this project discovers the unique qualities of moss—one of the most modest and simplest life forms—to effectively address noise-related challenges.
In order to identify the most optimal solutions, EARcosystem considers the preferences of the Vietnamese people thoroughly. As the project aims to create an inclusive environment, it offers the feature of personal customization especially designed for younger generations.
Through comprehensive research and the development of diverse concepts, EARcosystem strives not only to address noise pollution but also to foster a fresher lifestyle in which residents cultivate a greater sense of mindfulness and live in harmony with their surrounding nature.
Working Process
Students undertaking Capstone 1, in Design studies, are tasked with building complex mappings of the spaces in which they live and operate outside of university. The students start by mapping their neighbourhood, documenting, and collecting data from observations outside of their front door, extending to the wider community and the relations to the wider city, as they investigate how urban space accommodates the habits and rituals of human and non-human life.
From this extensive data, the students identify areas of fascination, through the connections and relationships within their mappings. This will lead to the start of the documentation and archival process of culturally important activities.
The students will then transition this into a future scenario, looking at 25 years' time. This will present design opportunities that may seem out of place today but will make sense in a future context. The design objects are less critical, but they provide a vehicle for the students to demonstrate their design skills, to complement their portfolio.
