In the contemporary world where multiple modernities co-exist, it is crucial for communication professionals to thoroughly understand the concept of modernity and evaluate its relevance for strategic decisions in communication. This project was delivered as a persuasive evaluation proposal to high-levels on the relevance of modernity to the socio-economic context of North Maluku, Indonesia, specifically in pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7). Considering the enormous potential that modernisation and technological development hold, the author strongly believes that modernity is the stepping stone for the region to successfully achieve its goals. The viewpoint is thus supported by a critical analysis of three dimensions: monetization of the economy, secularization, and globalization.
