I am Linh, a recent graduate of the International Business program at RMIT. I am proud to say that I made the right decision during my senior year of high school to pursue this major for my bachelor's degree.

The 3-year process of completing my degree was truly an eye-opening experience, where I was challenged to work in multinational teams, interact with classmates from different majors and was constantly motivated to develop a thirst for knowledge. I remember coming to class every week and our professors would always ask us questions about the latest international news or the most recent market trends. Therefore, this required us students to update news daily as well as reading and researching beyond the materials provided to us on Canvas (our school's learning platform) to actively engage in class. The learning model was also very interesting as discussions were highly encouraged, which presented a lot of sharing opportunities from all class participants. The knowledge and skills I learned during my time at university has definitely provided a strong foundation for me to become more confident in joining the workforce. My professors, colleagues and the school faculty have all played a key role in shaping the person I am today. Proud to say that I am an IB alumni, and I hope the IB program will continue to grow with more amazing generations of students!

Higher education, in reality, alters the direction of our lives. Since childhood, I have dreamed about the business world, leadership, and becoming a global citizen. Studying at RMIT can be seen as a solid foundation for the future, where I am equipped with a global mindset, problem-solving skills, and a sense of creating environmental, social, and governance. In my experience, different from other institutions, RMIT Vietnam challenges students with different assignments and work-integrated learning projects rather than dealing with exams which is a very practical approach. Lecturers, come from diverse backgrounds and teach from real professional stories, and I consider them idols that inspire me to study. I can always book an appointment with them during office hours, to get a review on our progress in absorbing the knowledge, or have them review our creative ideas in the assignment. In addition, attending faculty events such as International Business week, and the Born Global forum also helped me understand more about contemporary issues such as national branding or the soft power of Vietnam…which is a wide learning opportunity for me. Another advantage is that at RMIT I have the opportunity to work as a team with international friends and be a leader in cross-cultural situations in different projects. That's what I always advise younger generations at RMIT about making meaningful connections, being exposed to cross-cultural contexts, and doing your best in current works. Currently, I am in the process of completing my degree and landing my early career step. Dreams ahead, miles to go, and I’m feeling motivated about the new start now.

Nguyen Tran Thao Uyen

Current Student

I am Uyen, a senior student pursuing the International Business (IB) major. I have always been open to new learning opportunities that can sharpen my business acumen, and the IB program indeed provides me with a strong foundation of doing business across the national borders.
The IB program is indeed a very broad major that taps on many different aspects of international business operations, from cross-cultural management, corporate sustainability, international trade, entrepreneurship and innovation management to political economics. This program has provided me with valuable and updated knowledge on the trends and contemporary issues in the globalization context, which greatly enhances my employability and prepare me for my future endeavours in the business world. Besides, this IB program also equips me with a global mindset thanks to the learning of cultural intelligence and cross-cultural collaboration, which greatly helps me overcome my previous biases and appreciate the complexities and uniqueness of different cultures in order to work more effectively in an international environment.
Furthermore, what also impresses me is interactive, action-focused teaching method at RMIT that truly encourages students to participate in the discussions, which greatly enhances our critical thinking, independent learning and many relevant skills such as interpersonal communication and teamworking. Indeed, the teaching team at RMIT always encourage students to develop a holistic view of any topic and issue and apply the theories, models and frameworks selectively with clear understanding of the model’s advantages and deficiencies.

Thank you RMIT and the teaching team for designing this inclusive program and delivering the useful IB knowledge in an interactive and constructive approach. This program definitely widens my career options and greatly enhances my skills for my future career thanks to its comprehensive combination of topics that cover many dimensions of international business.

I had the opportunity to observe some live lectures at RMIT, some content of the course was technical and needed a dedicated focus for the students to grasp the concept. The lecturer simplified those topics and facilitated in such a practical way for the students to understand in a less undemanding way. Alongside, I found the overall course to be very much relevant and interrelated in any type of business that involves the scope of cross-border and international trade. For students, it is an excellent start to develop the understanding about international trade and treaties, supply chain, value creation and much more...so that they can have a strong foundation should they wish to continue the professional path in the future in the domain of supply chain, international trade, import export....

National Branding in the global business context: the way forward for Vietnam

As part of the Global Business program’s initiative to increase collaboration, contact, and relationships with industry stakeholders, an industry roundtable was organised on the 8th of August. As many as 23 industry professionals agreed to attend the event and engaged in discussions about various themes that included what tools university graduates should possess to be better equipped to adapt to an increasingly competitive business environment, and ways in which industry and universities could collaborate. One important aspect of the event was that all of the more than 20 students who also attended had the opportunity to mingle and interact with industry professionals. The conclusions drawn from the discussions were presented by both industry professionals and students, providing a very interactive and informative element. Touching upon the event, many beneficial activities have been considered by the managers and the academic team to enhance the Global Business students’ learning journey and open up future collaboration for both research and teaching.

In the first week of August, a group of nearly 40 people between students and academic staff from the School of Business and Management, RMIT Vietnam, visited the garment company Yody. The field trip was part of an initiative by the Global Business program to expose students to real-world company environments with an international focus. The field trip included a presentation by Mr. Son, Yody’s human resource director, a tour of the facilities, where the different departments and staff’s interactions could be observed, and also a questions and answers session, where students had the opportunity to pose questions to Mr. Son and other members of Yody’s staff. At the end of the trip, students expressed their interest in having more field trip opportunities where they could learn about, observe, and interact with industry professionals
