Custom Report Automation Process

This capstone project, developed by Team Chill Guys in collaboration with Intel’s PG16 Onsite Team, delivers a fully automated solution for Intel’s monthly customs reporting process. The current manual workflow requires staff to consolidate K1 (imports), K2 (exports), and K9 (scrap adjustments) files into the M1/M2 LMW Monthly Report. This process, taking over four staff-hours each month, is repetitive, error-prone, and creates compliance risks.

Our solution is a Microsoft 365-native automation tool designed to eliminate these inefficiencies. Built on Excel VBA for seamless template integration and Python for advanced PDF extraction, the system supports dynamic column mapping, configurable filtering, and batch data processing. Key features include broker-specific configurations, tariff code management, Outlook-based email reminders, automated scheduling, user management with role-based permissions, SharePoint integration, and a recovery mechanism to resume operations after crashes or interruptions.

User acceptance testing confirmed dramatic performance improvements: report preparation time was reduced from four hours to under fifteen minutes, accuracy reached 100%, and staffing requirements were reduced from two personnel to one.



Beyond Intel’s PG16 operations, this tool provides a scalable, low-cost, and offline-ready model for other compliance-driven industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and government, demonstrating the practical impact of hybrid VBA–Python automation.
