Student’s Testimonial

Tran Bich Thy
Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management)
People often say the first step to success is to believe. For me, I have trust in the potential of each individual, that we are all born to shine given the right circumstances. Thus, the way I feel about Human Resources Management, it is a job to share opportunities with people and with the world.
Nevertheless, one of the things that I appreciate the most was to meet 3 more new friends majoring in Human Resources Management while starting HRM Club. For me, joining university is important not because I’ll have a certificate that helps me to get a job after graduation. What I look forward to more is to form valuable relationships that will accompany me later on. Therefore, it has been a ‘highlight’ for me to sit down and talk to friends with similar interests and different ambitions.

I chose to study HRM because I've always known I was good with people and initially wanted to go into Psychology. However, it was not a very prospective career path considering I want to work in Vietnam, so I decided to combine my people skills with something practical, that is Business. That's how I came to HRM.
To be honest, I was aiming to go abroad since not many schools in Vietnam offered the HRM program when I was deciding on universities. As soon as I found out about the new program through RMIT experience day, I was completely hooked. I knew that the international environment would excite me and challenge me at the same time, and a new program meant new opportunities. So far it's lived up to my expectations.
My ultimate goal is to become an Organisational Psychologist. You might be wondering what this is. One explanation I liked best is that they study organisations to innovate the workplace environment and 'make work not suck'. The HRM program is my foundation to achieve that dream. Baby steps!
Because HRM is a relatively new program, the community is really small. But I find that encouraging because it has helped me deeply connect to like-minded people. We're all trying hard to achieve the same thing: change everyone's perception of work life. I feel like HRM is underrated in the grand scheme of things, maybe because in our culture, we do not expect well-being to be a top priority in the workplace. Another highlight is that our program managers are extremely friendly, and I always feel comfortable talking, or even joking around with them. Since I'm finishing up the core subjects, I look forward to the focused courses in upcoming semesters.
