Automated IT Asset Inventory and Tracking
ITS Asset Inventory Tracker is our QR code-based solution developed to aid and improve the management of RMIT University's expanding IT asset inventory across multiple campuses. It directly addresses the limitations of the current manual, error-prone system which is reliant on outdated manual lists. This can lead to inaccurate records, causing inefficiencies due to staff physical verification, and a severe lack of real-time visibility for decision-making.
Our application introduces automation and digital oversight through its four core features. Firstly, an item QR scanner for instant and accurate device identification and stocktaking. Secondly, a centralized asset inventory database which can be easily accessed. Thirdly, improved stocktaking tools and report generation for streamlined audits. Lastly, user friendly in-app item CRUD management capabilities for ease of use. Built on an already implemented and integrated Microsoft Power Platform and SharePoint, our application which is available on multiple platforms eliminates manual data entry, drastically improves operational efficiency, and provides real-time visibility into the entire asset inventory. Our project delivers a scalable, sustainable, and future-proof framework designed to support the university's growth, reduce administrative overhead, and mitigate critical audit risks.
