AviAi: AI-Powered Aviation Cognitive Interview

The Cognitive Interview (CI) is a critical technique for gathering accurate eyewitness testimony; while mastering it requires extensive practice. Traditional training relies on role-playing, an approach that is logistically challenging, difficult to scale, and poses a significant risk of vicarious traumatization to participants.

To address these limitations, our project, AviAI, delivers an innovative AI-powered training platform. We have engineered a psychologically safe, virtual environment where trainees can practice CI techniques with a responsive, emotionally intelligent avatar. The system leverages large language models (GPT-4o real-time) for nuanced, real-time conversation and LiveKit for seamless audio-visual streaming.



AviAI provides a scalable, on-demand solution that ensures consistent and effective practice for every user. By simulating realistic interview scenarios without the associated risks, our platform enhances skill acquisition, builds investigator confidence, and effectively bridges the gap between academic theory and real-world professional practice. This project successfully demonstrates how advanced AI can create powerful, ethical, and highly effective educational tools.
