Waste Management System
Refuse trucks are essential to keeping our city clean and safe by regularly collecting waste. One of the areas where we must keep clean is the medical facilities designed to help the sick and ailing. These places need to be preserved to protect the staff and patients from attracting more diseases. Therefore, refuse trucks dedicated to medical facilities play a crucial role in preserving the well being of its citizens. However, these trucks follow a fixed schedule built upon by the experience of their drivers which can lead to inefficiencies such as fuel wastage, overflowing bins and heavy CO2 emissions which can add to the pollution in the atmosphere.
This project aims to solve this issue by using IoT components to relay the real-time fullness of the bins which is displayed on our web application. Whenever the bins are full, their locations are passed through our routing algorithm to figure out the best routes for the drivers to take. These routes are shown on our maps to help guide the drivers to take the quickest routes, reducing fuel wastage and unnecessary CO2 emissions. Using AWS cloud computing, we ensure that this web application is always available for drivers.
