The assignment was to design a typographic wordmark spelling the full name of a selected Design Master, informed by research into their approach to typography, color, and composition. The wordmark was then applied as the central visual element of an A2 poster promoting a hypothetical retrospective exhibition of the designer’s work, situated in Vietnam.
The project explores how traditional cultural rituals can be translated into contemporary digital visual language. Using the Vietnamese lion dance as a central symbol of protection, rhythm, and collective celebration, the design investigates how heritage persists within an increasingly pixel-based visual culture. Research examined the relationship between ritual performance and digital representation, focusing on fragmentation, distortion, and pixel structures as metaphors for cultural transformation. The poster composition was built around a pixelated lion figure as the primary visual anchor, while typography, gradients, and glitch elements were carefully integrated to support the concept of ritual being reconstructed through digital systems.
The final poster presents a bold visual interpretation of cultural continuity within the digital age. A pixel-constructed lion emerges as both a traditional guardian figure and a contemporary digital artifact, bridging heritage and technological aesthetics. Vibrant gradients, modular pixel forms, and controlled typographic hierarchy create a dynamic composition that balances expressive imagery with clarity of message. Rather than simply depicting a cultural symbol, the poster reimagines ritual as a system that can evolve across mediums and time. The result is an exhibition poster that invites viewers to reflect on how traditions survive, adapt, and maintain meaning as they are translated into new visual and technological landscapes.
