Song Linh is a dual-strategy board game with social deduction elements. The game takes place during Ghost Month (Tháng Cô Hồn). Many wandering spirits seek to ascend to godhood, and to achieve this, they must gather spiritual energy through ancient relics, worship, and by dispelling rival spirits. The two players take on the roles of wandering spirits, possessing objects to become stronger.

“If your true name is spoken by your rival, your soul will be bound and banished.” Strategic thinking is essential; players must score points without revealing which spirit they truly are.

Ideas

Our intention with Song Linh is to blend local culture and traditional practices into a strategic gameplay experience. By focusing on the spiritual aspects of Vietnamese culture, the game’s assets are designed to resemble joss paper and talismans, evoking the feeling of performing Ghost Month offerings (Cúng Cô Hồn). The characters in Song Linh are inspired by Vietnamese folklore and mythology, grounding the gameplay in familiar spiritual narratives.

Theme

The game takes visual inspiration from Hàng Trống paintings and Hát Bội. A dark, warm colour palette is used throughout the game to enhance its mystical atmosphere, while traditional Vietnamese decorative patterns are applied consistently across all game assets to reinforce cultural authenticity.

Mechanics

The game unfolds over multiple turns, involving players choosing objects to possess and using Talismans to influence the situation while concealing their identities. Inspired by the childhood game of tug-of-war, the scoring system is designed to visually and mechanically represent the shifting balance of power between players. As points shift from one side to another, the changing balance of power keeps the competition tense and engaging.

Song Linh là một board game chiến thuật đối kháng dành cho hai người chơi, kết hợp với yếu tố suy luận xã hội. Trò chơi lấy bối cảnh Tháng Cô Hồn, khi nhiều linh hồn lang thang tìm cách trở thành thần linh. Để đạt được điều này, họ phải tích lũy linh lực thông qua các cổ vật, đồ thờ cúng, đồng thời trục xuất những linh hồn đối địch. Hai người chơi vào vai các linh hồn lang thang, ám vào những vật thể khác nhau để gia tăng sức mạnh.

“Nếu thân phận thật của bạn bị đối thủ gọi ra, linh hồn bạn sẽ bị trục xuất.” Vì vậy, tư duy chiến lược là yếu tố then chốt trong trò chơi.

Ý tưởng

Mục tiêu của Song Linh là kết hợp văn hóa tâm linh Việt Nam và các tập tục truyền thống vào trải nghiệm chơi. Các vật dụng trong game được thiết kế dựa trên vàng mã và bùa chú, gợi cảm giác như đang thực hiện nghi thức Cúng Cô Hồn. Nhân vật trong Song Linh được lấy cảm hứng từ truyện dân gian và thần thoại Việt Nam.

Chủ đề

Trò chơi lấy cảm hứng từ tranh Hàng Trống và Hát Bội. Bảng màu tối và ấm được sử dụng xuyên suốt, kết hợp với các hoa văn trang trí truyền thống Việt Nam để tăng cường bầu không khí huyền bí.

Cơ chế

Người chơi lựa chọn các vật thể để chiếm hữu, sử dụng bùa chú và che giấu danh tính thật của mình. Lấy cảm hứng từ trò chơi kéo co dân dã, hệ thống tính điểm được thiết kế để thể hiện sự giằng co quyền lực giữa hai người chơi. Khi thế cân bằng sức mạnh thay đổi, sự căng thẳng và kịch tính được đẩy lên cao trào.
